Q: What product do you use for mosquitoes and ticks??
A: We chose a plant-based product obtained from chrysanthemums used in many lice shampoos for infants and children and for flea and tick sprays for dogs. Even then, we dilute the product by half, which has proven to be a very effective and completely benign application. For more information about our product, please call us at 508-627-7195.
Q: Does it work on mosquitoes only?
A: Actually, mosquitoes and much more. It’s very effective for ticks; it kills them and creates a barrier to stop ticks from invading the property. The product also keeps fleas and ants in check, too.
Q: Who can apply the product?
A: Only those who have been licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are permitted applicators. All members of our staff are certified by the state.
Q: Once my lawn has been sprayed, how long should we stay off it?
A: After application, we recommend waiting just 10-15 minutes to allow the product to dry and create a barrier. We also recommend that pets be kept inside during the spraying and, like their owners, stay off the area immediately after application.
Q: Does rain affect the product?
A: Only a long and heavy rain impacts the longevity of the application. Actually, it’s the sun that breaks the product down after seven to 10 days when we recommend reapplication. In other words, having your property treated weekly is ideal.
Q: What type of mosquito is found on Martha’s Vineyard and Chappaquiddick?
A: There are 3,000 mosquito varieties worldwide. Here on the Vineyard and Chappy, we have Aedes Solicitians, or the salt marsh mosquito. This mosquito is more bothersome than most because it bites all day long, unlike others that mainly attack at dusk and dawn.
Q: How do you apply the product?
A: We use backpack sprayers to create a barrier around the perimeter, then move across the lawn. We are careful to avoid flower beds to prevent any harm to beneficial insect populations. Mosquitoes are killed on contact and the area is protected for the next 7-10 days pending severe weather.
Q: Can you accommodate a single event like a party or wedding?
A: Absolutely! The application is very effective when the property is sprayed the day before or the morning of your party. Your guests will appreciate not just the summer days and sunsets, but the absence of nagging mosquitoes.
Q: What’s involved for full protection throughout the outdoor months?
A: The best way is to schedule a weekly spraying from mid-May through September. If you’re a summer resident or visitor, we recommend spraying a week or two prior to your arrival, and then maintaining a weekly application. In short, we can create any schedule to match your Vineyard calendar with your outdoor activities.
